All of the Fort Rucker and local public schools cooperate with the Secondary Education Transition Study Memorandum of Agreement to ease the transitions of the children and youth as they move from installation to installation.
On-Post Schools
The two Fort Rucker schools serve students from age 4 through the sixth grade who live on-post.
The Elementary School, comprised of second through six grades, was designed and constructed in 1964 with traditional individual classrooms.

The post’s schools provide high quality
educational opportunities.
Fort Rucker schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The schools are funded through DOD as Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools on military installations.
Alabama requires children to be 4, 5, or 6 years old, on or before September 1, to enter the program for the 4-year-olds, kindergarten, or first grade, respectively.

Well-Rounded Education

Fort Rucker students receive a comprehensive, well-rounded education that includes gifted education, art, music, physical education, library science and guidance.
Reading Recovery, taught at the Fort Rucker Primary School, is an internationally acclaimed program that assists first graders with difficulty reading. A pilot program for dyslexic students is ensuring success for identified students.
The Fort Rucker schools participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture School Lunch Program that provides breakfast and lunch. Qualified students receive free or reduced-priced meals. The school provides transportation for students residing more than one mile away from the Elementary School.

Thrift Shop
The Thrift Shop has admirably served Fort Rucker and the surrounding community for over 42 years. The Thrift Shop raises funds for worthy causes through the sale of consigned and donated merchandise such as used clothing, toys, jewelry, books, house wares, furniture, and electronics.
Over the years, many organizations have benefited from its financial support. Some of these organizations include the D.A.R.E. program, Holiday Food baskets, the community Library, the A.F.T.B. program, and the Scouting programs. The Thrift Shop also awards scholarships to deserving students and donates merchandise to the local DAV, the Wiregrass Emergency Pregnancy Service, Relay for Life and many other organizations.
The Thrift Shop is completely dependent on the support and generosity of volunteers and donors. Help is always welcome and much needed in all aspects of the shop. Volunteers’
price donations, tag them, and place them on the sales floor. Other volunteers work in the Consignment area receiving consignments.
Donations arrive daily, so there is always work to be done sorting, tagging and moving donations to the floor. If volunteering is not possible, consider donating items or stopping by and shopping at the Thrift Shop. There are many wonderful treasures to be found. Make a difference in the community.
Donate, volunteer, and shop at your Thrift Shop. The Thrift Shop is located on Gladiator Street, Bldg 3904, across from the Post Office. We are open Wed. through Fri. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Consignments hours are Wed.s from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thurs.s from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information on volunteering, donating merchandise or consigning items please call 255-9595.
